Genre: Drama/Dramedy
Script Length: 105 Pages Status: Script Development On the brink of his 40th birthday, with a mid-life crisis bubbling to the surface, Jackson Bailey is called back to his small Louisiana hometown to care for his aging parents, Floyd and Beverly. Leaving behind his job and girlfriend in Philadelphia, he heads home to find his mother unable to walk on her own but refusing to leave his father, whose dementia his mother has been hiding. As the days drag on, and his life in Philadelphia becomes more distant, Jackson finds himself thrust back into the lives of the townsfolk he grew up with-- most of whom remember him for playing Lady Macbeth in his high school play. Not the least of these “blasts from this past” is his high school crush and best friend, Mel, now a 38 year-old grandmother. As his sometimes ornery and racist father’s condition progresses, Jackson finds himself examining his relationship with his father as well as his own identity. Is the person he was when he was growing up even still a part of him? Or maybe it is still too much a part of him. |
